Flash flood hits Montclair’s Historic Studio Players

Flash Flood in Montclair NJ impacts Studio Players

We are heartbroken to say that yesterday’s unexpected storm has wrecked our shop, prop storage, furniture storage, and boiler. Flood waters gushed in by quite literally breaking our garage door open, and at its worst, flood waters rose to 3 1/2 feet. Since 2018, flash floods have hit Montclair at least 4 times. Each time these floods have impacted Studio Players, local businesses, and local families.

What we did since the last event

With your past donations we’ve been able to:

  • Put industrial sinks, metal shelving, and water-proof wall materials, all of which did survived this incident. This lessened the damage and potential mold remediation.
  • We’ve also installed sensors for water, but the power outage meant that those were off-line for an extended time, which unexpectedly affected us.
  • Put as much furniture as possible above a 5 foot mark to lessen the chance of damage.
  • Replaced the garage door with a studier door ( but this sturdier door was breached)

Please donate if you can we still need assistance

We are once again humbly asking for donations. We know we’ve been here before, and with your generous donations we’ve made so many improvements to the playhouse. This flooding was bad, but it could have been so much worse.

We continue to work on upgrades, but the reality is that our special theatre is a 120-year-old historic building, and she still needs our help.

We are still assessing the situation, but in the short-term we need to:

  • Rent a disposal dumpster
  • Do mold prevention and possible remediation
  • Remove all water damaged materials
  • Clean up all non-porous items hit by flood waters
  • Replace molding, and building supplies below flood level
  • Replace painting supplies below flood level

We need donations and volunteers

If you can, please, we are asking for donations. ANY amount is greatly appreciated We are also asking for volunteers this Saturday ( time TBD we will update) to help us clean up (more info later) and please share this post to get the word out. Thank you
