The flood gates are Up!

Over the past few years, Studio Players has faced devastating losses due to flash flooding, a recurring challenge that has threatened our facilities and our ability to serve our community. These sudden and severe flood events have caused significant damage, disrupting our operations and highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive flood prevention measures.

In response, our dedicated team of volunteers, Facilities Manager Patrick Mannix, Past-President Spencer Fox and Treasurer Amy Fox, have been working tirelessly to fortify our infrastructure. Their latest achievement is the installation of a new steel flood gate, an essential first step in our ongoing flood mitigation efforts.

This sturdy, four-foot-high barrier stretches across the garage doors, a critical area that has previously been breached during flood events. The gates serve as a robust barrier, preventing floodwaters from entering and causing further damage to our facilities. Their installation marks a significant milestone in our commitment to safeguarding our space and ensuring the continuity of our programs.

In addition to the flood gate, we’ve already upgraded our flood monitoring systems and installed a modern sump pump system to better manage potential water intrusion. These combined efforts have substantially improved our resilience against future floods.

Looking ahead, we are planning additional renovations and enhancements to further protect our community space. Our goal is to create a safer, more sustainable environment so that we can continue to foster creativity and community for years to come.

We thank everyone who has donated time and money in making these crucial improvements. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to fortify our 100 year old + building
