A letter from our president, Amy Fox
It’s hard to believe it has been 5 months since we have been able to have people in the playhouse.
By now, you all are aware that the board of managers came to the difficult decision to cancel the first half of the 2020-2021 season, but the health and safety of our actors, volunteers, and patrons is our main concern. Additionally, the remainder of the season remains a question mark. The reality is we may not be able to present any live theater until the fall of 2021. However, if it becomes safe and possible, we have some things we are thinking through.
In the meantime, Allyssa Hynes and her cast of Superhero Princess Tales are working on a virtual presentation. It will not be your typical Zoom reading, but a comic strip style performance that they are putting together. We are excited to present it in August – keep an eye on social media and this website for the premiere!! Season Planning is also looking into a few other possibilities for interesting virtual theater experiences.
Our yearly membership drive is underway, with discounted rates due to the pandemic. We hope you will renew your membership to help us stay afloat as we maintain the building until everyone’s safe return.
Behind the scenes, Elizabeth Quiñones and Dale Smith-Gallo have put together a diversity committee that has been meeting regularly to help us grow a theater community as diverse as the city we call home. Additionally, a new act curtain has been purchased and will be installed.
We also have a new and exciting website thanks to Laura Byrne Cristiano! You can renew and pay for membership online, purchase tickets directly (when we have live shows again), read about our commitment to our community in all forms, and enjoy photos from past productions.
Not only have I missed the wonderful productions that we had planned, but I miss the comradery of the theater community! I wish you all a safe and happy summer and I look forward to the time when we can all be together again.
Fondly,
Amy Fox
President
A note from our membership manager, Elizabeth Quiñones
Dear Valuable Studio Players Members,
We miss seeing your wonderful faces, but we know that it’s for good reason—to keep everyone safe and healthy during this unprecedented pandemic.
Normally, this time of the year is when we ask our current members to renew their membership and we need your support now more than ever. We’re aware that you’re not going to reap the same membership benefits like you did pre-pandemic, so we’ve modified our membership price tiers. Although our payment structure has been at historically discounted prices, we’re aware that some people might not be in a financial situation to donate as much.
Here are our adjusted membership pricing tiers for the 2020-2021 season:
- $20 regular membership
- $15 senior (67 and up) membership
- $10 lifetime membership (member for 20 years and more)
NOTE: We will not offer junior membership for this season.
Below are the adjusted benefits you’ll receive this year:
- Monthly email of our Cue Sheet
- Building maintenance to keep the theater in great shape and sanitized for when we reopen
- Be the first to know of any online performances that will happen at Studio
You will be able to pay your membership online, but it you prefer, you can send a check (made payable to “Studio Players”) to:
Studio Players Membership
14 Alvin Place
Upper Montclair, NJ 07043
At this time, would you be willing to give a little more along with your membership renewal? Since we will not be garnering ticket sales in the next few months, any extra can help keep Studio on its feet as we get through this time together. You can both renew your membership online and/or give an additional donation at this link https://studioplayhouse.org/membership-form/
We look forward to coming back to Studio as soon as it is safe to do so. And we’re very appreciative of each and every one of you. If you have any questions or notes, feel free to email me:
